Q: Can I work with existing files in WEng 3?
A: You can work with WEng2 *.wep project files in WEng3, but if you at some point in the future want to go back to WEng2, you cannot use a *.wep project file modified by WEng3 in WEng2. Furthermore, you should be aware that the extreme-wind model has changed, and WEng3 is prepared to work with accurate directions of all observed extreme winds. That direction is missing in existing *.wep project files. So when working with existing *.wep projects files, WEng3 simply assumes that observed extreme wind directions are equal to the sector centre angles. That assumption is slightly wrong, so to take full advantage of the improved extreme wind model, we recommend that you reprocess your met. data with our new WAsP Climate Analyst 2 (no extra charge) and import the new type of OEWC file into WEng3.
The format of the turbine site lists is unchanged and you can still use maps in WAsP *.map file format. In addition you can use maps in the perhaps more convenient Surfer ASCII grid format.
The scripting language in WEng3 has changed and not all standard scripts have yet been updated for WEng3. Users with private scripts will also have to update these for WEng3. The changes mainly affect extreme-wind objects which no longer are simple collections of winds for each sectors. Therefore, scripts iterating over multiple wind directions will typically have to be reorganized. Object typecasting inside scripts has also changed a little.
